Finding Doctors and Facilities

Having the Out-of-Area PPO plan makes it easy to find doctors and facilities for your care.  You can choose your provider and where to get care with the following two options:  PHCS, MultiPlan or Cigna Healthcare PPO networks (in-Network) and out-of-network

For Information about Kaiser Permanente Insurance Company’s (KPIC’s) Network Adequacy Policy, please review our Frequently Asked Questions Document.

In-Network

Private Healthcare Systems (PHCS), MultiPlan and Cigna PPO Network providers.

  • To find up-to-date participating physicians, facilities or health care practitioners you can search by Location or call Customer Service at 1-888-225-7202 (TTY 711), Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 6 p.m., Eastern time.

Kaiser Permanente States:  Within CA, CO, GA, HI, MD, OR, VA, WA and DC you have access to PHCS and Multiplan Networks**

Non-Kaiser Permanente States:  The Cigna Healthcare PPO Network* only provides access to care in non-Kaiser Permanente states.

*Disclaimer:  The Cigna Healthcare PPO Network refers to the health care providers (doctors, hospitals, specialists) contracted as part of the Cigna Healthcare PPO for Shared Administration

  • No referral is needed for office visits to in-network physicians or specialists.
  • It is always a good idea to call the provider’s office to confirm that they’re a participating provider.

Can I nominate a physician to become an in-network provider?

  • Yes. If you were seeing a doctor who is not a member of either the PHCS or MultiPlan networks within the Kaiser Permanente States of CA, CO, GA, HI, MD, OR, VA, WA and DC or a Cigna Healthcare PPO Network provider outside of the Kaiser Permanente States before you became an Out-of-Area member, you can nominate that doctor to join our network.  Please keep in mind your provider may choose to join our network.
  •  To nominate a PHCS provider in a Kaiser Permanente state, visit multiplan.com/kpmas for information or call the MultiPlan provider Information line at 1-888-220-6010. To nominate a Cigna Healthcare PPO Network provider outside of Kaiser Permanente states, call  Customer Service at 1-888-225-7202 (TTY 711), Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 6 p.m., Eastern time.
  • Review can take up to 6 months. Whether a physician or practitioner is accepted depends on a number of considerations, including the provider’s interest in joining, so a nomination doesn’t guarantee acceptance.

KPIC has contracted with PHCS and MultiPlan, national preferred provider organization networks that contract with physicians, hospitals, and other health care providers, to provide access to the PHCS network for KPIC in Kaiser Permanente States of CA, CO, GA, HI, MD, OR, VA, WA and DC.   KPIC has contracted with the Cigna Healthcare PPO Network to provide access in non-Kaiser Permanente States to their providers (doctors, hospitals, specialists) that are contracted as part of the Cigna Healthcare PPO for Shared Administration.

* The PHCSTM and MultiPlanTM networks include physicians and health care practitioners and facilities that are available to Kaiser Permanente Insurance Company members via a network access agreement. Not all PHCS and MultiPlan network providers are included. For a list of network participants, go to multiplan.com/kpmas.

Out-of-Network

Choose any licensed provider anywhere for care.

  • With the out-of-network option, you can work directly with any licensed provider or facility anywhere.
  • No referral is needed for office visits to out-of-network physicians or specialists.
  • Just remember that this option generally has the highest out-of-pocket costs.
